FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Is this a KREC real estate license requirement?

I took both NAR’s free online ethics and fair housing courses. Why aren't they listed on KREC’s website with my other CE credits?

You may take NAR’s online courses to satisfy the membership requirements, but neither offers CE credit and will not show up on KREC’s website.

Who must satisfy this requirement?

The NAR Code of Ethics and Fair Housing requirements are for ALL active REALTOR® and REALTOR® Associates. It does not matter if the REALTOR®’s "day job" is an appraiser, attorney, doctor, etc., you must take both the NAR Code of Ethics and Fair Housing courses as a member.

What is the deadline for completing the requirement?

Cycle 8 runs from January 1, 2025 to December 31, 2027.

I have previously taken an ethics and fair housing course. Doesn't that count?

These requirements have a set 3 year – calendar year – cycle for completing ethics and fair housing. All REALTOR® members are on the same cycle.  Your deadline to complete subsequent courses is not three years from when you last took a course.  The deadline will always be December 31st of every third year – 2027 | 2030 | 2033 | etc.

What are the consequences of not completing the requirement?

Consequences of Not Completing Mandated NAR Code of Ethics and Fair Housing Requirements by the December 31st deadline:

RSCK, KAR and NAR memberships will be suspended on January 1, 2028.

Upon a REALTOR® agent being suspended, all rights, privileges and services they are entitled to receive are suspended until they satisfy the training requirement.  Once the requirement is met and a reinstatement fee is paid, all rights, privileges and services are restored the next business day. While suspended, though, the obligation to abide by the Code of Ethics continues, as does the obligation to pay dues.   MLS rights, privileges and services are not affected, except when their Managing Broker is suspended or terminated.

In the event of a Managing Broker’s suspension of membership occurs, the memberships of all REALTOR® agents in their office will also become suspended. In addition, MLS access is not available to their agents, unless participatory privileges are transferred to another principal in the firm.   Further, upon a Managing Broker’s termination of membership, the same will apply to their agents’ REALTOR® memberships.

Upon suspension/termination they:

  • are no longer allowed to use the term REALTOR®
  • will no longer receive membership benefits from RSCK
    • RSCK Standard Forms
    • Member pricing on products from our REALTOR® Store
    • Receive member communications to stay up-to-date on industry and business information,
    • Member discounted pricing on classes
    • Attend Professional Development offerings, such as: Lunch & Learns
    • Qualify for RSCK Production Awards
  • will no longer receive any membership benefits or services from the Kansas Association of REALTORS®
  • will no longer receive any membership benefits or services from the National Association of REALTORS® such as REALTOR Property Resource (RPR)

If still not completed within first two months of the next year, membership will be terminated on March 1st, 2028.

If a REALTOR® agent’s membership is terminated, the agent will transition to a non-member salesperson affiliated with their company. This is in accordance with the RSCK Bylaws. Once a terminated REALTOR® who is in default of meeting the mandated NAR requirements has completed the courses, they will qualify for reinstatement of membership. Please note that reinstatement fee(s) will apply.

If a Managing Broker’s membership is terminated, all rights, privileges, and services they are entitled to receive as a member of RSCK and SCK MLS are revoked.  Furthermore, the membership of all REALTOR® agents in the office will also be terminated and should be notified of the possible membership termination. Reinstatement fee(s) will be assessed if membership is terminated.
