At the City of Wichita February 1st District 4 Advisory Board Meeting, Wichita’s Housing and Community Services Department presented their 2021-2022 funding plan that includes allocations from Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), HOME Investment Partnerships, and Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG) funds. These funds are provided from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and are used to benefit low to moderate income neighborhoods and residents to prevent blight, provide housing options, and fund the Neighborhood Resource Centers, just to name a few.
One of the most popular programs through Housing Services is the Home Repair Program that is available to those who meet income eligibility and are current on their property taxes. These repairs address health and safety needs such as plumbing, heating, electrical, roof replacement, etc. The Home Repair Program receives funding from the CDBG allocations.
The HOME Investment Partnerships allocations are used to create affordable housing for low-income households. This includes housing development and home buyer assistance. Again, there are income limits and other criteria for eligibility.
Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG) funds are used to address homelessness, including shelter services and rent and utility assistance for families and individuals in immediate danger of homelessness.
Wichita is an affordable city with a wide range of available jobs, education, and services. We understand that there are circumstances throughout life that can create setbacks and cause hardships. We are excited to announce that our unfinished storage area (upstairs North side of our building) is currently under construction as we transform it into a space to be better utilized by our staff and our members. This part of the building will be transformed into a new state-of-the-art board room and several more offices. In addition, one of our former offices near this area will also be renovated. We are hopeful the construction will conclude by May 2021. We look forward to the many new opportunities this new space will provide our staff and members as our Association continues to grow. In the meantime, continue to watch the construction progress through our Weekly eReport emailed to members every Monday morning.
