  • Wichita metro population hits 644,610… The population of the Wichita metro region rose to 644,610 in 2015, growth of about 3,000 from 2014, according to the latest estimate of the U.S. Census.  Since 2010, the metro population has risen nearly 13,000, about 2 percent, or about 0.4 per year. That puts Wichita below the middle of U.S. metro areas, but by no means close to the bottom.  Read More

  • Wichita State engineering grants aimed at computer training…The Wichita State University College of Engineering is offering support to Kansas high schools in an effort to help beef up computer science courses, according to a news release.  The college is set to offer grants to 20 high schools in the state this summer to help increase students’ computer coding skills, the release said. Two-week training grants for instructors will be valued at $2,400 each.  Read More

  • Government Expands Critical Habitat Rules...The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service and National Marine Fisheries Service have expanded their critical habitat regulations, which could lead to an increase in the amount of state, local and private land designated by the government as essential for threatened or endangered species. A critical habitat designation can result in restrictions on how a parcel of land may be used and lead to increased costs for projects that require federal authorizations or licenses. More
  • NAR Affirms Support for Appraisal Threshold...NAR favors the current $250,000 threshold for appraisals in federally related real estate transactions and has submitted a letter to the Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council (FFIEC) Economic Growth and Regulatory Paperwork Reduction Act (EGRPRA) that underscores its support. Details
  • FCC Proposes Consumer Internet Privacy Rule...The Federal Communications Commission has released a proposed regulation that would require Internet service providers to clearly disclose how they collect personal consumer data and share it with third parties, as well as how the data is used by those organizations. NAR will provide comments to the FCC on the proposed rule once the proposal is adopted. More

NAR Generational Survey: Millennials Increasingly Buying in Suburban Areas…WASHINGTON (March 9, 2016) – A growing share of homebuyers are millennials, and more of them are purchasing single-family homes outside of urban areas, according to the 2016 National Association of Realtors® Home Buyer and Seller Generational Trends study, which evaluates the generational differences of recent home buyers and sellers. The survey additionally found that although student loan debt is more prevalent among millennial buyers, they aren’t the generation with the largest student debt balances.

  • REALTOR® Emeritus Candidate Forms Due…April 8 is the deadline to complete certification forms for REALTOR® Emeritus status, which recognizes REALTOR® members with 40 years of continuous membership and have completed at least one year of service at the national association level. However, for applications filed through 2019, the one-year service requirement may also be met through service at the state or local level. Applications must be submitted no later than April 8 to be considered for approval by the Board of Directors in May 2016 at the REALTOR® Legislative Meetings & Trade Expo.
