  • House Passes VA Loan Bill…The House of Representatives has approved legislation that includes a provision to eliminate the cap on VA loan limits. In congressional testimony on Feb. 10, NAR Vice President Sherri Meadows spoke in favor of increasing the limits and also supported changes to the rules governing fees that can be charged to veterans when they purchase a home.   • NAR Joins Partners on FASB Letter…NAR, along with real estate industry partners, sent a letter to the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) on Jan. 29 requesting an exemption for private companies from the new lease accounting standards. More.

  • Estancia development kicks off with residential and Mainstreet care facility…Development will have 98 acres of residential and 52 acres of commercial, with homes ranging from $250,000 to $400,000. Developer Marv Schellenberg stands in front of where utilities are being put in for the new Mainstreet care facility at his Estancia development, which will have 98 acres of residential and 52 acres of commercial.   • Winfield to get new grocery store next week…A new discount grocery store is set to open next week in Winfield, according to a news release from the Cowley County Economic Development Department.  The Save-A-Lot grocery store, located at 1906 E. Ninth in the Winfield Plaza, will be open to the public beginning Wednesday, the release said. A ceremonial opening, accompanied by a ribbon-cutting, is scheduled to take place on Tuesday.  Read Entire Article

  • Occidental Management pushing $70M development in Newton…Wichita-based Occidental Management is pitching a $70 million restaurant and retail complex in Newton.   • KC developer planning $10.5M housing project in Newton… A Kansas City developer wants to create a multi-family housing project in Newton. Kelley Hrabe, a partner with Prairie Fire Development Group, gained preliminary support this week from the Newton City Commission for a $10.5 million housing project that would include 62 units of two- and three-bedroom duplexes, triplexes and quadplexes. He wants to build on land west of the Newton Walmart off Windward Drive, which is near where Highway 50 and I-135 intersect.  Read Entire Article

  • How is Zillow Using IDX Listing Data?...NAR and Move Inc., operator of realtor.com®, which are involved in an ongoing legal battle with listing aggregator Zillow, are seeking to find out whether Zillow’s data-collection agreements with agents, brokers, and MLSs allow Zillow to compare IDX data with data scraped by Zillow from realtor.com®. Zillow is producing those IDX agreements in the case in a redacted format, but the King County Superior Court in Seattle, Wash., has authorized Move and NAR to preliminarily investigate what the data agreements allow and don’t allow Zillow to do.
