Wichita, KS (8.4.2022) – Since 2016, the REALTORS® of South Central Kansas (RSCK) Community Involvement Committee has been conducting a backpack and school supply drive benefiting the Wichita Public Schools USD 259 McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Program. As the 2022 backpack and school supply drive came to a close this week, RSCK REALTORS® and business partner members delivered 518 backpacks and several boxes of school supplies. RSCK members have been so consistent in contributing to this donation drive that as of August 4, 2022, we have collectively donated over 3,000 backpacks and school supplies since the donation drive began six years ago. RSCK looks forward to continuing this partnership in helping homeless children in our community receive the tools they need to succeed.

The McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act requires that all schools provide homeless students with immediate access to education, even if the child lacks school records, a birth certificate, medical/immunizations documents, or proof of residency. The Wichita Public Schools has a strong commitment to ensuring that all homeless children and youth receive a meaningful opportunity to enroll and attend all public schools in the district. The Wichita Public Schools McKinney-Vento Office acts as a resource for homeless families and school personnel facing questions or assistance related to homeless children and youth. The program provided services to over 1700 students.
