How to Get a License

Education is key to you being more competent, confident and profitable!

We are pleased that you are interested in getting a Kansas real estate license and are here to help.  In order to gain a Kansas real estate license, you must:

  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • Have a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Complete Education for Salesperson License
    • Principles of Real Estate Course (30 hours).  Upon completion of this course, you will receive a Certificate of Completion (valide for 12 months) and you are now able to take the licensing exam.
      • Classes held every January - February - April - June - July - August - October in various schedule formats.
      • $190,  but take the Kansas Practice Course in same month and pay only $175
        • JULY:  July 13 . . . 8:30 am to 5:00 pm | July 16 & 18 . . .  6:00 pm - 10:00 pm | July 20 . . . 8:30 am - 5:00 pm | July 23 & 25 . . . 6:00 pm - 10:00 pm
        • AUGUST:  Aug 3, 4, 10, 11 . . . 8:30 am - 5:00 pm
        • OCTOBER:  Oct 5 . . . 8:30 am - 5:00 pm | Oct 7 & 9 . . .  6:00 pm - 10:00 | Oct 12 . . . 8:30 am - 5:00 pm | Oct 14 & 16 . . . 6:00 pm - 10:00 pm

(PLEASE NOTE: You must attend every date and time listed for each month in order to have completed the 30 hours required.)

ENROLLMENT FORM 

    • Kansas Practice Course (30 hours). The course is required for all Kansas residents and for all nonresidents and may be completed either before or after the licensure exam. Upon completion of the course, you will receive a Certificate of Completion (valid for 6 months) which must be filed with the license application.
      • Classes held every January - February - April - June - July - August - October in various schedule formats.
      •  $190, but take in same month as Principles of Real Estate and pay only $175.
        • JULY:  July 27 . . . 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 pm | July 30 & Aug 1 . . .  6:00 pm - 10:00 pm | Aug 3 . . . 8:30 am - 5:00 pm | Aug 6 & 8 . . . 6:00 pm - 10:00 pm
        • AUGUST:  Aug 17, 18, 24, 25 . . . 8:30 am - 5:00 pm
        • OCTOBER:  Oct 19 . . . 8:30 am - 5:00 pm  | Oct 21 & 23 . . .  6:00 pm - 10:00 | Oct 26 . . . 8:30 am - 5:00 pm | Oct 28 & 30 . . . 6:00 pm - 10:00 pm

ENROLLMENT FORM

  • Submit a completed fingerprint card, background waiver form and $60 non-refundable back ground check fee + $15 non-refundable application fee.
    • Fingerprint cards are provided the first day of the Principles of Real Estate course. Download instructions and Waiver form.
    • You may fill in the Commission’s ORI #, KS920120Z, if it is not printed on the card. 
  • Pass the licensing exam ($82) before the course certificate expires.
    • Download the Candidate Handbook at www.pearsonvue.com/ks/realestate/ for information on exam scheduling and procedures.
    • Applicants with a current license in another state must request a waiver of the National portion of the exam at www.pearsonvue.com/ks/realestate and then schedule the Kansas portion of the exam.  Staff cannot apply the waiver at the exam center.
    • A license application is provided upon passing the exam. 
  • Complete your salesperson license application.
    • Must be submitted within 6 months of completing the Kansas Practice Course.
    • The Application must be signed by a supervising or branch broker who will be responsible for supervising the applicant's real estate activities and who will certify that the applicant is honest, trustworthy and of good reputation.
    • Include a nonresident form (REL-110) if not a Kansas resident.
    • An original license cannot be issued on inactive status.
    • Supporting documentation for licensing application.
